Leaving home to find oneself 6000 km away – a woman’s journey towards identity in life and in writing

Leaving home to find oneself 6000 km away – a woman’s journey towards identity in life and in writing.

Native Prince Edward Islander Mary McDonald left her home on Canada’s eastern seaboard to study and make a life for herself. She ended up becoming a lecturer in language and literature at Tampere University. She will introduce the topic of migration and identity with particular emphasis on 20th century women’s migration to Prince Edward Island.

The evening will be hosted by the Finnish-British Society in cooperation with the Finnish Canadian Society and will take an interactive approach to the topic of migration and how one articulates identity in a new place. Participants are warmly welcome to share their thoughts and experiences on the topic.
