Through images and testimonies of non-combatants who lived through the Japanese invasion of British India, this presentation will explore memories of some of the bloodiest and most significant – but largely forgotten – battles of World War II that the British Empire had to endure.
Kazu Ahmed is a Helsinki-based researcher and documentary photographer. Departing from a very militarized narrative of WWII, he travelled across India’s northeast collecting images and testimonies of villagers, some speaking about their trauma of the war for the first time.
