“The English Garden” is a Federation of Finnish-British Societies’ seminar programme of three illustrated talks by three top exponents of English horticultural knowledge. Between them, they explore the English Garden as a cultural icon. Its origins and story of the English Garden styles that have existed and what we can see today are explained by the first speaker, the award-winning journalist Ambra Edwards. The second speaker,  horticulturalist David Stokes, then explains the Gardenesque period and why the modern English Garden looks the way it does. Our third speaker, the university lecturer Leena Lindén, considers the perceptions, understanding and indeed lessons the English Garden can give, through the prism of a Finnish eye, and to us all in the stressful modern world.
