What is Transition Security (Muutosturva)?

If you are aged 55 or over and your employer terminates your employment contract, you may be entitled to Transition Security (Muutosturva).

Transition Security is a scheme designed to help you find new employment as quickly possible.

Who is entitled to Transition Security?

You are entitled to Transition Security for those aged 55 or over if

  • you had reached the age of 55 on or before the date your contract was terminated.
  • your employment relationship ended with dismissal for production-related or financial reasons on or after 1 January 2023.
  • your employment relationship lasted for a minimum of five years without interruptions of a combined total of 30 days or more.
  • you have registered as a jobseeker in the Job Market within 60 days of the date of termination.

    How is the training arranged?

    1) Register as a Jobseeker

Go to Job Market Finland E-services and register as a jobseeker.
This must be done within 60 days of dismissal to qualify for transition security benefits.

    2) Create an Employment Plan

During your notice period, you should contact the employment authority. You will then work with an employment official to create an employment plan.
Amongst other things, this plan may include training designed to increase your chances of employment.

If you and the official agree English language training would increase your chances of re-entering the job market, you can contact us at this stage and we will design a custom-made course plan to match your requirements.

    3) Participate in Training

When the plan is approved, Finnbrit will provide you with tailored English language training and guidance from one of our expert teachers.
