Finnbrit Museum Club – Escape to Moominvalley
Tuesday, 14 April 2026
16:30
Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki
Join the Finnbrit Museum Club for a trip to the Architecture and Design Museum where we will visit the Escape to Moominvalley exhibition with a dedicated guide from the museum (45-minute tour in English). This exhibition explores how Tove Jansson envisoned Moominvalley as a safe haven in turbulent times: she began writing the Moomin books in he 1940s during the bombings of Helsinki. The many poignant metaphors she employed resonate even more today. The exhibition also explores themes of home and homelessness, solitude and community, safety and insecurity, which are as relevant in the 21st century as they were in her lifetime.
After the tour, we will go for a drink and a chat in a nearby café.
Meet 15 minutes early at Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki, Korkeavuorenkatu 23, 00130 Helsinki
The guided tour is funded by Finnbrit. The tour is free for members, and others pay 10€.
Participants pay for their own entry ticket: Participants are recommended to get the Museum Card, which gives free entry to museum venues all over Finland.
Finnbrit goes to the museum!
The aim of the group is to visit museums and exhibitions in the capital area. This is an opportunity to socialise with like-minded English-speaking enthusiasts of arts and culture. We visit the museums as a group, with a guided tour in English. After the tour, those who wish can move on to a local venue for an ‘after’ drink and conversation, which doesn’t have to be about art or culture! Children are welcome to join.
Finnbrit reserves the right to postpone or cancel the event if the number of enrolments is low.
