An illustrated discussion between Theresa Bubbear, British Ambassador to Finland and John Calton, lecturer in English.

They are a revered form of British cultural expression, a counterweight to weighty contemporary affairs. Cartoons can offer colour, comfort, concision, confusion, allusion and arguably more than a grain of truth. But are there limits to what they can and should do? What can they really tell us about what’s going on? Are they merely ephemeral or can they come to fix particular moments in history? A selection of cartoons will form the basis for our discussion.
